Summary
The Children's Literature Comprehensive Database, or the CLCD, is very extensive database that returns bibliographic information pertaining to user searches over the subject matter of all children's and young adults' literature. If the user would like to search by a particular age or grade range, that is easily done. Searching by authors, illustrators, or certain awards is just as easy. As with any database worth its salt, these criteria can be combined in any way to return a list of titles that meets the user's needs. The CLCD website states that, "Our goal is to connect our subscribers with information about books,
authors and illustrators around the world, and to connect children and
young adults with the books that will make a significant difference in
their lives." They go about meeting this goal by providing information on not only the materials searched for, but by returning other relevant results and clearly ranking them by relevancy. Short biographies of the authors and reviews of works are also added to give the searcher a greater understanding of each work.
Evaluation
This database is extensive in that it contains works of children's literature as well as young adult literature, but that can easily be narrowed down in the search criteria. Also, being able to cast a wider net is advantageous when searching for young adult materials that may also skew younger. With this database, a teenager could quickly and easily find a book or other item of interest from a favorite author, series, or genre. Links to Library of Congress and WorldCat information make it easy to track down these items at a local library as well.

Older teens familiar with advanced searching skills will benefit the most from this resource.
Trying to find a book similar to the one you loved is often difficult. With this resource, it is easy to achieve highly relevant search results based upon the criteria selected, making it that much easier for a reluctant reader to find something else they want to delve into. Links to reviews and extensive bibliographic information make each returned search result that much more valuable and easy to skim, perfect for a teenager simply wanting information quickly and easily.
